COMMAND PROCESSOR

The final level of the system, the command processor, was constructed under strong time pressure, and was difficult to view as an artificial machine. It provided a large assortment of functions, mostly determined by the fact that no previous level had provided these functions. Some of the functions included at the command processor level were octal debugging, subprocess construction from subprocess descriptors, teletype line editing, looking up of compound names in a number of directories, money accounting on a user by user basis and pass word protection for entry to the system.
